Fun and Work – Yes, They Can Go Together

This past week was a very busy one for Lady Sweet Tea. And to be honest I enjoyed every minute of getting to know people in my new hometown of San Antonio.

My first outing was to have lunch with the ladies of my church. The fellowship was sweet, and so were the desserts. 

The ladies were so gracious to each share a little bit about themselves, their hobbies, and their families. That was especially fun when reading popped out and everyone started sharing their favorite books for their children as well as what they were all reading now. The topics ranged from serious theology books to light hearted novels. I know I am in the right place when reading and books sparks such interest.

My next social event was a scrapbooking class taught by Veronica Tovar. I found out about the course through the MeetUps website. http://www.meetup.com

I never knew this website existed. I highly recommend it for everything from bike riding groups, to internet marketing, crafts, and visiting local brew pubs.

Scrap book page 1 I had not tried scrapbooking for over 20 years ago. I did one page when my son was 3 years old and never did another one. But I always knew I wanted to master this art form, so I have stashed and stored keepsakes and photos. We moved over 8 packing boxes of scrapbooking stuff. I have 2 years to finish it all. That is our goal date for moving out of the apartment. I don’t want to move boxes again; I want to move photo albums.

You can’t laugh, ok, you can giggle if you want, but no outright laughter. I arrived at Veronica’s house a little after 10:30 AM and I left at 3:00 PM. I had a fabulous time. I had the personal tutorial of Veronica’s up line manager, and I almost finished 1 of the 4 pages we were working on. Remember I said no laughing???

Yes, I think I must be very OCD about some things and Scrap book page 2 it frustrated me when the cuts were not exactly straight, or my stamp was not exactly evenly coated. Do you get the picture? Very slooooow, lol.

And my last adventure was on Friday. I went to Firecat Studio’s for First Friday Co-Working event. This event is advertised on another new to me website called Eventbrite. http://www.eventbrite.com/

Firecat Studios also sponsors a guest speaker for lunch. This month was the marvelous business coach Alicia Arenas shared some Quick Start Sales tips. She can be found on facebook and her website http://saneracamp.com/about/meet-alicia/

Firecat Studio’s founder and CEO is Susan Price. She is an amazing woman with a depth of technical and web knowledge. Her website is http://www.firecatstudio.com/

I hope that I get to spend more time with these amazing women. They were so encouraging to me about the possibilities of gaining contract work in the future. My husband’s life insurance policy money will be running out relatively soon. Which will be the topic of another post soon. Learning how to re-enter the “contract work” world after being a stay at home wife and mother is daunting at best and down right scary at worst.

I was so uplifted and encouraged by this meeting, I can’t wait for the next one.

One day soon, I hope to have them all over for afternoon tea (or wine and cheese) and thank them for their encouragement. Of course, John and I need to finish unpacking the last boxes. Then we need to find some living room and dining room furniture. It’s a good thing I have the wine and the tea. These have been unpacked already. HEB has the cheese and bakery goodies and a party is born.

As always, I wish all of you,

Happy Sipping,
Lady Sweet Tea

One Response to Fun and Work – Yes, They Can Go Together

  1. I’m embarrassed to say that I’m just finding this now!
What a delightful day you had! I enjoy scrapbooking, and although I have actually managed to complete a few (a couple of wedding albums and a few memorable vacations), I have plans for SO may others that never seem to get finished (or started….for that matter.)
It’s too bad that you didn’t move north….we could arrange scrapbooking “dates” and actually get something done.
Unless you pulled out the wine. That would certainly finish me off quickly.
Hope you’ve managed to get some more pages accomplished since posting.
Perhaps you could post your updates. That might keep you motivated.
    Good luck with your ventures.
    Barbara
